The Small White Dog
Small dogs are arguably the most adorable of pets. They can be companion dogs, terriers, or even working dogs. As for size, small dogs are considered to be under 18 inches in height. But if you have your heart set on a particular color, such as white, you have a bountiful of breeds from which to choose. Some of these breeds come in different colors but white is definitely one of the more popular. Below are some examples of small white dogs.
Toy American Eskimo
The Toy American Eskimo is one of the relatively few dogs where a solid white coat is the standard for the breed. This small white dog stands about 11 to 12 inches high and weighs from six to 10 pounds. It is descended from the German Spitz and like most spitz dogs its tail is curled over its back. It's a fluffy dog with erect ears and small feet and has a disposition many owners describe as obedient and affectionate.
The Bichon Dogs
The bichons include the Havenese, the Bolognese, the Maltese, the Bichon Frise and others. The standard coat color for most of the bichons is also white, though the Coton de Tulear can have a black and white coat and the Lowchen's coat is acceptable in a variety of colors. These dogs are about eight to 11 inches high and have sweet, friendly and lively personalities. Most have a beautiful, abundant double coat that needs much tending.
Miniature and Toy Poodle
These familiar dogs are famous for how their thick and harsh textured coats are clipped. The show clips most people see are the Continental Lion Clip, the English Lion Clip or the less formal lamb clip. As for the poodle itself: it's a lively and intelligent little dog that doesn't really care how silly it looks as long as it is comfortable, healthy and well loved.
West Highland White Terrier
This is a terrier from the Western Highlands of Scotland and its coat must also be pure white. It stands from 10 to 11 inches high and like most terriers is a surprisingly bold and active little dog. It has a naturally short tail, pointed and small ears, a round skull and a thick, lovely coat that needs a lot of care.
The Sealyham Terrier
This little terrier is also strong willed and assertive, with powerful jaws and a strong neck and legs for hunting and killing badgers. Its head is nearly covered by a beard and a mustache, and it has a long, coarse coat that the owner or dog groomer needs to strip by hand at least twice a year to keep from matting.
The list is larger than what is mentioned in this post but there simply isn't enough room to write about all of the wonderful traits each one of the above breeds posseses. Two personal favorites from this list - the toy poodle and the westie for reasons that might be considered partial, i.e., (owner of both breeds!).
Small white dog, black dog or spotted...it really doesn't matter. If you are a dog lover then you will undoubtedly fall in love with whichever choice you make. And if you aren't a dog owner yet, then once get a taste of the joy they can bring into your life, you will never go back.
